The St. Francis Xavier Library Media Center provides a safe and stimulating environment that promotes learning and literacy to help students achieve academic success and to become independent seekers of knowledge.

Our library centers on student learning with instruction focusing on research strategies that will help students access and evaluate information and use it correctly. Students are instructed on how to use the Online Card Catalog and the Dewey Decimal System which helps them become independent learners.

Our collection is current with books of high interest value that support the curriculum, the Accelerated Reader program, and appeal to diverse student needs.

Technology is an integral part of the learning process here at St. Francis and the library provides computers for student use and a Smartboard used for instruction and presentations. The computers are equipped with software that supports the curriculum and helps with research and writing. Students have access to the Online Card Catalog on all computers in the school.

Policies

Students should have their Agenda Book signed by a teacher if they are planning on visiting the library not during their scheduled class time.

Circulation

Students may borrow books for 14 days and they are renewable. A fine of five cents a day will be charged for each day a student's book is late.

Volunteers:

The library is a wonderful place to volunteer! There is always much to do such as checking books in and out, assisting students in locating books, reading a book at storytime, or working at our Spring and Winter Scholastic Book Fairs!

Book Donations

Book donations are always welcome. It is great way to add to our collection.

Our Library has 15 computers which enables half a class to work on assignments or take AR tests.

We open each morning at 7:20 for students to take AR tests. Parents are welcome to come and help their children select books.

Student Book Review

The Big Field by Mike Lupica

Fifth grader, Nick Johnsen, just finished reading The Big Field and said, "the book has a really good message, would be enjoyed by both boys and girls, and that there is an unexpected twist." Thanks for the review Nick. Good job!!

If you would like to review a book, just see Mrs. O!

Mrs. O just finished reading several of the books in the Young Bond series. If you like action and adventure with lots of information, these are great reads. The books are about James Bond when he was a teenager and all the adventures he found himself in the middle of when he was trying to get through Eton (school in England). If you are a fan of the James Bond movies, these book are a must!
