Magis
Committee
What is "Magis?" [pronounced "màh-gis"] It is a Latin word for "more," and is taken from the motto of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam" which is translated, "For the Greater Glory of God." Magis is a key element of Jesuit spirituality, inviting us to do more and to become more in the hope of offering greater service. The Jesuit tradition calls us in all matters to seek the greater good, the magis and become men and women for others.
The St. Francis Xavier Magis Committee is a campus ministry team comprised of students, parents, and teachers. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits, wrote that "love ought to manifest itself more by deeds than by words." The goal of the committee is to seek the magis in our deeds as we care for the soul of the school. Ministries of the committee include: worship, retreats, formation, social justice and Christian service.
Activities:
- monthly meetings that focus on service
- planning and facilitating retreats
- planning and facilitating service projects
