Divine Mercy

04-24-2022From Fr. Dan SullivanFr. Dan Sullivan, SJ

Divine mercy is God’s refusal to leave us in our fallen condition. Jesus enters the “locked doors” of our hearts, banishing fear and sin and saying, “Peace be with you.”

Today’s gospel reading, after Jesus’ resurrection, he appeared to his frightened apostles in the upper room where they had celebrated the Last Supper. Earlier in the story the apostles told Thomas that Jesus had appeared to them. He spoke strongly that he would not believe in the resurrection unless he put his fingers into hands and side of Jesus. How bold. How arrogant.

Later, the risen Lord appears again, and Thomas is there. Jesus, full of MERCY, does not berate, shame, or embarrass Thomas. Jesus invites Thomas to touch him and believe. “My Lord and my God.”

God is full of mercy toward us. He loves us unconditionally.

Doubt not but believe!

Jesús invita a Tomás a tocarlo y creer.

¡No dudes sino cree!
